Senior Therapeutic Carer, Welshpool

The Supply Service are recruiting for an experienced Senior Therapeutic Child Carer on behalf of a specialist residential home based in Welshpool, Powys.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced residential childcare professional to join a therapeutic environment supporting young people aged 11–18 with complex and challenging needs.

Successful applicants will play an important role in providing young people with a safe, secure and supportive environment, whilst taking additional responsibility for running and coordinating shifts, supporting colleagues and ensuring high standards of care and working practice are maintained throughout the home.

Essential Requirements
Successful applicants will:

  • Hold a Level 3 qualification in Children and Young People, or equivalent – essential
  • Ideally be working towards a Level 5 qualification
  • Have significant experience running shifts in a Senior capacity
  • Have strong previous experience within residential childcare
  • Have experience managing, supporting and guiding other members of staff
  • Be confident taking responsibility for the smooth and effective running of shifts
  • Have experience supporting young people with complex and challenging needs
  • Have a positive, resilient and child-centred approach

Experience of working within a Therapeutic Community would be highly advantageous.

Previous experience supporting young people with Harmful Sexual Behaviour (HSB) would also be advantageous.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading and coordinating shifts, ensuring the home operates safely and effectively
  • Managing and supporting staff to ensure high standards of care and good working practice
  • Acting as a positive and consistent role model for young people
  • Providing high-quality care, guidance, support and protection
  • Creating a positive, safe and therapeutic environment
  • Supporting young people in accordance with their individual placement and care plans
  • Taking Link Worker responsibility for young people where required
  • Supporting and preparing young people towards greater independence
  • Helping young people overcome barriers, raise their aspirations and achieve their potential
  • Organising stimulating activities, opportunities and new experiences
  • Maintaining accurate records, reports and children’s files
  • Communicating effectively with external agencies and other professionals
  • Working collaboratively with Education and Therapy teams
  • Promoting safeguarding, child protection, health & safety and the welfare of young people
  • Attending and contributing to staff meetings, supervision, appraisals and relevant training

Working Pattern
The home operates a 2 days on / 4 days off rota, providing a working pattern that promotes a healthy work-life balance.

There are no sleep-ins required for this role.
