The Supply Service are recruiting for an experienced Team Leader on behalf of a specialist therapeutic residential home based in Welshpool, Powys.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced residential childcare professional who is already working at Team Leader level, or an established Senior who has significant experience leading shifts and is ready to take the next step in their career.

The role involves supporting young people aged 11–18 with complex and challenging needs within a therapeutic residential environment.

As Team Leader, you will take responsibility for managing, supporting and supervising a team of approximately 6–8 staff, ensuring consistently high standards of care and good working practice.

This is a substantial leadership role. As a team of 6–8 can represent the entire staff team within some residential settings, we are looking for applicants whose previous experience demonstrates that they are ready to take responsibility for a team of this size.

Essential Requirements
Successful applicants will:

• Hold a Level 3 qualification in Children and Young People, or equivalent – essential
• Ideally hold or be working towards a Level 5 qualification
• Have previous experience working in a Team Leader position within residential childcare

OR

• Have several years’ experience working at Senior level, with significant responsibility for running shifts, supporting colleagues and demonstrating that they are ready to progress into a Team Leader position
• Have strong previous experience within residential childcare
• Have experience managing, supervising and developing members of staff
• Be confident taking responsibility for a team of approximately 6–8 staff
• Have significant experience coordinating and leading shifts
• Be confident delegating responsibilities appropriately and maintaining good working practice
• Have experience supporting young people with complex and challenging needs
• Have a positive, resilient and child-centred approach

The size and structure of the applicant’s current or previous residential setting will be taken into consideration, particularly where their experience demonstrates responsibility equivalent to managing a substantial staff team.

Experience of working within a Therapeutic Community would be highly advantageous.

Previous experience supporting young people with Harmful Sexual Behaviour (HSB) would also be advantageous.

Responsibilities Include

• Managing, supporting and supervising an identified team of staff

• Supporting the effective development of team members and promoting good working practice
• Taking responsibility for the management and performance of your identified staff group
• Leading and coordinating shifts to ensure the home operates safely and effectively
• Delegating shift coordination to suitably experienced staff where appropriate
• Supervising Link Worker responsibilities within your team
• Providing guidance, support and leadership to Senior Therapeutic Carers and other members of the care team
• Acting as a positive and consistent role model for both staff and young people
• Providing high-quality care, guidance, support and protection to young people
• Maintaining a positive, safe, caring and therapeutic environment
• Supporting young people in accordance with their individual placement and care plans
• Supporting young people to develop independence and essential life skills
• Organising and encouraging stimulating activities, opportunities and new experiences
• Maintaining accurate records, reports and children’s files
• Communicating effectively with external agencies and other professionals
• Working closely with Education and Therapy teams
• Maintaining a high level of supervision of young people
• Promoting safeguarding, child protection, health & safety and the welfare of young people
• Attending and contributing to staff meetings, supervision, appraisals and relevant training

Working Pattern
The home operates a 2 days on / 4 days off rota, providing a working pattern that promotes a healthy work-life balance.

There are no sleep-ins required for this role.

About You
This role would suit an experienced residential childcare professional who is comfortable taking genuine responsibility for a staff team.

You may already be an established Team Leader, or you could be a highly experienced Senior Therapeutic Carer / Senior Residential Support Worker who has spent several years running shifts, supporting colleagues and is now ready to progress.

You’ll need to demonstrate that you have the experience, confidence and leadership skills required to manage a team of 6–8 staff, while maintaining a therapeutic and caring environment where the needs of the young people remain at the centre of everything you do.
